Episode 56 Jim Davis

Jim Davis
Jim Davis

My passion for real estate started around the age of 12, when I began helping my Dad renovate houses. He was a career enlisted soldier in the Army and in those days a second job was a necessity. There were always lots of G.I.’s being transferred to the Army base in need of housing so he started to buy old houses that could be improved and rented out. When he passed away, about 10 years later, the real estate assets, accumulated through his “sweat equity”, allowed my Mother to live financially independent for the rest of her life.

Jim’s favorite book:

I’ve been involved in real estate investing most of my life. I bought my first undeveloped lot when I was 15 and went on to rehab bungalows in the Houston Heights and on Main Street in old Sugar Land. Fortunately I’ve never lost money on Houston area property investments, although, there were times when some projects were more enjoyable than profitable.

For the past 12 years I have been helping home buyers in the Houston area avoid buying a money pit by providing comprehensive Houston home inspections of the property under contract. I’ve inspected thousands of houses, from 650 to over 12,000 square feet, with list prices from fifty thousand dollar starter homes to multimillion dollar River Oaks mansions. During this time I’ve also had the pleasure of working with some of Houston’s most successful real estate agents and brokers, who share my goal of protecting the interests of the home buyer.

Along with my bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Houston I’m also a licensed Texas real estate broker. The broker’s license has been a great way to further my real estate education and stay connected with Houston’s dynamic real estate community.
