Charlotte Home Inspector Preston Sandlin

In this episode of the Successful Home Inspection Podcast Preston Sandlin of Home Inspection Carolina and Ask the Charlotte Home Inspector reviews the book “Delivering Happiness” by Tony Hsieh.

Now in trade paperback, the hip, iconoclastic CEO of Zappos shows how a different kind of corporate culture can make a huge difference in achieving remarkable results — by actually creating a company culture that values happiness –and then delivers on it.

  • Pay brand-new employees $2,000 to quit
  • Make customer service the responsibility of the entire company-not just a department
  • Focus on company culture as the #1 priority
  • Apply research from the science of happiness to running a business
  • Help employees grow-both personally and professionally
  • Seek to change the world
  • Oh, and make money too . . .

Sound crazy? It’s all standard operating procedure at Zappos, the online retailer that’s doing over $1 billion in gross merchandise sales annually. After debuting as the highest-ranking newcomer in Fortune magazine’s annual “Best Companies to Work For” list in 2009, Zappos was acquired by Amazon in a deal valued at over $1.2 billion on the day of closing.

In DELIVERING HAPPINESS, Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh shares the different lessons he has learned in business and life, from starting a worm farm to running a pizza business, through LinkExchange, Zappos, and more. Fast-paced and down-to-earth, DELIVERING HAPPINESS shows how a very different kind of corporate culture is a powerful model for achieving success-and how by concentrating on the happiness of those around you, you can dramatically increase your own.

Episode 45 Chris Thornberry

Chris Thornberry started Green Sky Media in 2007 after graduating from the Telecommunications program at Ball State University. From the start, his goal has been to bring high production value to Green Sky’s agile team. Aside from being behind the camera, Chris’ other duties include recording voice-overs for various projects, drinking too much coffee, and concept creation for new campaigns.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys traveling across the US and Europe with his fiancée Astrid. He is also an avid runner, and often connects this pastime with giving back. This year, Chris is a member of the Tatum’s Bags of Fun Triathlon Team (visit the TBoF website to learn more about this great cause)

Green Sky Media is a video production firm based out of Carmel, Indiana. With in-house post-production, voice-overs, and a green screen studio, we can be a one stop shop.

Green Sky has a large portfolio of national brands, while maintaining a strong hold on local video productions as well. Owner Chris Thornberry says, “I like to keep the focus on Green Sky producing corporate videos for companies who need training videos, commercials, and exposure for brand management.” This niche style of video production, however, does not limit Green Sky’s capabilities.

Green Sky is also known for working side by side with local non-profit agencies to increase awareness for the organization through a partnership. Green Sky Media looks to partner with a single organization each year, but does not limit their interaction with non-profits to just one organization. Previous partnerships include Back on My Feet and Team T3 Multisport. Currently, Green Sky is partnering with Tatum’s Bags of Fun for 2014.

Green Sky has recently launched a video library product that provides video content for a specialty industry’s social media and marketing efforts. The companies who purchase the video libraries are provided with their company branded videos on a quarterly basis. Through collaboration with industry professionals, the content of each video has gone through a gamut of editing to ensure accuracy and reliability.

In this podcast Preston Sandlin reviews “Bold” by Peter Diamondes. Preston recently read this book and thought it would be a great book for home inspectors.

From the coauthors of the New York Times bestseller Abundance comes their much anticipated follow-up: Bold—a radical, how-to guide for using exponential technologies, moonshot thinking, and crowd-powered tools to create extraordinary wealth while also positively impacting the lives of billions.

Bold unfolds in three parts. Part One focuses on the exponential technologies that are disrupting today’s Fortune 500 companies and enabling upstart entrepreneurs to go from “I’ve got an idea” to “I run a billion-dollar company” far faster than ever before. The authors provide exceptional insight into the power of 3D printing, artificial intelligence, robotics, networks and sensors, and synthetic biology. Part Two of the book focuses on the Psychology of Bold, drawing on insights from billionaire entrepreneurs Larry Page, Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and Jeff Bezos. In addition, Diamandis reveals his entrepreneurial secrets garnered from building fifteen companies, including such audacious ventures as Singularity University, XPRIZE, Planetary Resources, and Human Longevity, Inc. Finally,Bold closes with a look at the best practices that allow anyone to leverage today’s hyper-connected crowd like never before. Here, the authors teach how to design and use incentive competitions, launch million-dollar crowdfunding campaigns to tap into ten’s of billions of dollars of capital, and finally how to build communities—armies of exponentially enabled individuals willing and able to help today’s entrepreneurs make their boldest dreams come true.

Bold is both a manifesto and a manual. It is today’s exponential entrepreneur’s go-to resource on the use of emerging technologies, thinking at scale, and the awesome power of crowd-powered tools.

DAWN, SUPPOSED TO BE RETIRED.

(Sarcastic laughter in the background)

Dawn is working her way to Hawaii or New Zealand one inspection at a time.

She’s the Miracle worker behind the scenes. She has stunning catlike agility when you try to sneak a piece of lasagna.

SCOTT, MASTER INSPECTOR AND FOUNDER

His attention to detail and the positive way he communicates his findings has put him in the top 6% of home inspectors in the nation for the number of inspections he performs each year.
